Veikko Aitamurto been documenting the life of the Sami people since the 1960s. For decades, he has followed the life and family of a Sami called Mr Jouni Aikio, who also goes by the name Haikonen. He documented the changes in the Sami people’s lifestyle and particularly the transformation in the sources of living. He has also worked as a news photographer in Finland since 1965. He has had several photography exhibitions in Finland and aboard about the Sami people’s life.
Veikko Aitamurto on dokumentoinnut saamelaisten elämää 1960-luvulta asti. Usean vuosikymmenen ajan Aitamurto seurasi saamelaisen Jouni Aikion elämää ja perhettä. Aikion, joka tunnetaan myös nimellä Haikonen, myötä Aitamurto pääsi seuraamaan saamelaisten elämäntyylin ja elannon hankkimisen muutoksia. Aitamurto on työskennellyt myös uutiskuvaajana vuodesta 1965 lähtien. Hänellä on ollut useita näyttelyjä saamelaisista sekä Suomessa että ulkomailla.
